Caring people,
worshipping God together
in a beautiful and historic setting
Welcome to
St. Peter’s Church, Ash
Surrey, England

Q: What about money? Do I need to put something into the collection?
A: We don’t take a collection during our normal services (though we do at special services such as Christmas and Easter). We do leave out a plate so you can leave a gift or offering if you choose. But what you give and if you give, is absolutely up to you.
Q: What about kneeling, if I’ve got a bad back or arthritis?
A: Some people kneel for prayer, others will just remain sitting and bow their heads. Most people kneel to receive communion at the front of the church, but those who have difficulty in doing so will just stand to receive communion at the communion rail. Or the rector can bring you communion where you’re sitting.
Q: How will I know what to do in the service? What about communion?
A: The person leading the service will tell you when to stand or sit. In communion, each row of people is invited in turn to come up to the communion rail by one of the church wardens. You’re very welcome to come up for communion or for a blessing, but you can just stay in your seat if you prefer. While communion is going on, we sing hymns or spiritual songs.
Q: St Peter’s looks very old. Are the services very old fashioned?
A: Our prayers, responses and other parts of the service are all in modern English. There’s a depth and a richness in our services which is very special to us. We hope you’ll learn to experience God’ love and grace through our liturgy, as we have.
Q: Is the church just full of old people?
A: We have all sorts of ages and varieties in St Peter’s. There are babies and toddlers, older children and teenagers. There are younger families, middle aged couples and folks who’ve retired. But whatever our age and background, we all find there’s something very special at St Peter’s which brings us together as a church family.
Q: Would I or my children get bored at St Peter’s?
A: Many of us have found that getting to know God (and the rest of God’s people at St Peter’s) has been the most fantastic adventure in our lives.
But there’s lots of fun things to do (try the Drama Group!) and there’s lots of laughter in our lives. We’re just ordinary people who find God really exciting!
